There’s more to this than the name implies

Ancient Chinese medicine relies heavily on herbal concoctions to treat a number of illnesses.  Combined with acupuncture and acupressure, meditation for the mind and tai-chi for the body, Chinese Traditional Medicine is a natural and holistic approach to care.

Since we advocate a well rounded, whole body approach, there is definitely room for Chinese Traditional Medicine in your recovery regimen.  We do not think this should be your only tool and you absolutely must talk to your entire medical team about any supplements you are given by your TCM practitioner.

Many physicians will not know anything about the herbs you’re taking let alone how they interact with you and your medications.  Enlist the help of a pharmacist who can check for interactions (give them a heads up and some time to do the research) or insure you have an Integrative Functional Medicine doctor on your team.  THIS is what they do – work as a conductor for everyone in your orchestra.

Whatever you do, do not take these supplements assuming they’re natural and won’t harm you.  Some of them are as potent or more so than pharmacy grade medications.

We do not offer medical opinions or diagnoses.  WE strongly encourage you to be transparent with and to consult your entire medical team to determine if a treatment, supplement or lifestyle change is suitable and safe for you.  for instance, ashwagandah is incredible but may decrease the efficacy of medications – not an appropriate supplement for those taking seizure or blood pressure medications.  be proactive about your recovery but also implement due diligence as we cannot ascertain what is safe for you.  The products we list on this site are not an endorsement or guarantee nor do we exercise control or responsibility of the sellers.  Stroke recovery network does not accept or incur any liability for the information provided and readily available to anyone willing to do their own searches and all research, links and products on this site are solely intended for informational purposes
