for the natural side of medicine, these are the professionals you need

When we talk about natural medicine, it seems that we lump the buzz words into one category.  In actuality, there are differences in naturopathic, holistic and alternative.

Naturopath

Naturopath doctors are physicians licensed in a different board.  They treat a variety of diseases and conditions using natural pharmacology.  That doesn’t mean their methods are less effective because most of our medicines are derived or synthesized from plants.  What it means is they know how to use these substances properly and safely.    They treat the body as a whole whereas traditional medicine tends to be more segmented and specialized.

Holistic

Holistic practitioners aren’t physicians but their approach is also more natural.  Going with a holistic practitioner alongside your traditional medicine doctor is advisable.

Alternative

Alternative practitioners are similar to holistic practitioners.  The slight difference between the two is the methods they incorporate – alternative tends to be more off label uses of HBOT or using red light whereas holistic would be Reiki massage and essential oils.  However, all three practitioners have a lot to offer and we recommend having all of them in your corner along with your traditional medical team for a well rounded and whole body approach to recovery.

The fine print:  We treat our listings seriously because nothing is more important to us than safe and successful stroke recovery.   While we review the information provided by business owners and practitioners to verify the appearance of responsible, ethical treatment, keeping the stroke survivor’s best interests in mind, we have no ability to enforce business practices, set guidelines or practice standards and cannot guarantee the quality or outcome of their services.  Please research your potential provider thoroughly before proceeding with hiring them.

We also reserve the right to refuse listing to any business or practitioner that  does not appear to meet a minimum threshold of standard care.   Example, providers falsely promising they can reverse brain damage, practicing in a field without proper training  or predatory , controversial treatment plans that do nothing more than drain a survivor’s wallet.
